The De la Motte Castle is a miniature masterpiece of Hungarian castle architecture, built in the late Baroque, Copf style between 1774-78. Its builder, Baron Sámuel Szepessy, was later forced to sell it to Count Antal Almásy and Baron Anna Vécsey. The castle's name comes from her second marriage: her husband, Colonel de la Motte, was from the court of Maria Theresa, and he is credited with the French interior decoration and references of the castle. It may have been designed by Jakab Fellner or the builder himself, János Povolni. The murals are the work of János Kracker Lukács és Zach József, Szikora Gy&ourl;rgy and Lieb Antal.
