Diósgyőr Paper Mill Paper Industry Museum

The Diósgyőr Paper Mill has set up a unique paper exhibition from its historical relics, with the aim of preserving tradition and professional history, which is the jewel of our mill and a curiosity among the tourist attractions of our city. The exhibition traces the history and development of papermaking, the modern paper industry, and presents the history of the factory over more than two hundred years, from the beginning of the invention of paper to the present day.

Pictures, models, diagrams, certificates, authentic documents, quality control Viewing the tools and the film showing the current production process helps visitors get a complete picture of the intricacies of one of the oldest professions, papermaking. The exhibition is represented by a banknote display, which presents banknotes made on paper produced in Diósgyőr since 1920.

In addition to various machines, tools, and original documents, a papermaking workshop furnished in the style of the 18th century, equipped with period furniture, crowns the sights and evokes the atmosphere of ancient times. You can see the process of making handmade paper, as well as the dipping sieves used to give the paper its unique charm. For over a century, the papermakers of Diósgyőr have been using this technique to produce the special paper that has brought the factory significant success and fame.
