The castle building is a prominent monument. It was built between 1397 and 1409 as the center of the Lackffy family's estate on a rocky core surrounded by water and marshes.
The Kuny Domokos Museum has been operating in the castle building since 1954. The Piarist (Tatatóváros) Museum, founded in 1912, preserves significant collections, mainly from the Bronze Age and Roman period, including archaeological, natural science, local history, fine and applied arts, as well as domestic and international folklore, among others, the monuments of the Tata faience factory. It has 13 permanent exhibitions. The exhibition presents the history of Tata and its surroundings from the Roman era to the 19th century, and two rooms house temporary exhibitions.
