On the square we find the monument to the victims and martyrs of World War II, as well as the bronze equestrian statue of the "Hungarian Hussars". The Hussars have been part of the city life since 1869, when a hussar regiment of the Hungarian Royal Army moved into the city barracks. The Hussars were part of the city during World War II. They played an important role in the economic and social life of the city until World War I.
The Art Nouveau corner building, which is clearly visible from the square and defines the cityscape, is the former Nyírvíz Palace. The Art Nouveau palace was built in 1910-1912 according to the plans of Gyula Papp and Ferenc Szabolcs. On the gable of the building overlooking Széchenyi Street, two mosaics depicting ancient occupations can be seen: one symbolizes fishing and hunting, the other agriculture.
