Nyíregyháza Zoo

The Nyíregyházi Zoo is located 5 km from the city in the Sóstó resort, where a beach, a village museum and a forest park offer relaxation to visitors. The Zoo is located in this natural, almost untouched environment, deep in an oak forest. On the 30-hectare area, world-class facilities welcome visitors to explore the Earth and observe how animals live in different parts of the world. Visitors can rest their fatigue in the zoo's own hotel, the Hotel Dzhungel.

The park was established in 1998 on the site of an old leisure park. The aim was to preserve the natural environment and create a zoological exhibition in Hungary that meets the mission of modern Western European zoos. Therefore, an important rule of the construction that took place from year to year was to build such enclosures and develop the animal collection in such a way that it created a habitat that met European standards, taking into account the principles of animal husbandry of that period.

Of course, the zoological profession has developed over the years, so the park has also undergone continuous transformation, and the animal husbandry that had become obsolete over time has been replaced by a new one. They are trying to modernize or eliminate places. So the visitor can expect a continuous renewal if we come year after year. It is not only important for us to enrich the collection, but also to create the best possible conditions for our existing animals.

More than 500 species and more than 5,000 individuals of the diverse animal world live here, among which our visitors can encounter such special features as the white tiger, the African elephant, the Komodo dragon, the Indian rhinoceros, polar bear, sand tiger shark, and western lowland gorilla. More than 50 species are successfully breeding in our country as part of our conservation programs, including the giraffe, the lark, the Bornean orangutan, the Balinese army, and the Siberian tiger.

Our employees are constantly present in the international zoological circulation. We maintain important relationships with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry, Malaysian and Indonesian zoos. We participate in the board of directors of several professional organizations and the publications of one of our team members are constantly appearing in professional publications.

Today, of course, the zoo is not only about presentation, entertainment, and relaxation, so in addition to strictly professional work, we place significant emphasis on the environmentally conscious upbringing of children and the development of a sense of responsibility at a young age. connection with the living environment. Our summer camps and forest school programs are very successful, as well as animal shows, where the animals also undergo important training, while important music for people is also played during the shows.
