The Esterházy Castle in Tata
The Tata Castle of the Esterházy family, the Counts of Franconian Hungary, bestowed all the blessings of the realm upon its inhabitants. With comfort, family happiness, the entertainments offered by a country residence, the pleasures of hunting, games, and music. The castle has hosted royal guests on more than one occasion, and once, in 1809, it was the site of a famous peace treaty with Napoleon. It was also the site of the signing of the Peace of Schönbrunn. Built on the shores of the picturesque Lake Oereg, the castle is rightly called the “Island of Peace”. .
