The memory of Tata's once thriving Jewish community is preserved in its romantic-style synagogue, which was built in 1861 based on the plans of Ignaz Wechselman.
It was used as a warehouse from the summer of 1944, and then permanently after 1945. The synagogue was donated to the city by the Jewish community in the 1970s. The text engraved on a granite stone erected in the garden of the former synagogue preserves the memory of the Tata Jews who were deported to the Auschwitz death camp on June 6, 1944. On the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, on November 18, 2004, in the courtyard of the renovated former synagogue, the work of Mária Lugossy entitled In Memory of the Martyrs of All Time was inaugurated. At that time, the Tata Synagogue was declared the Holocaust Memorial Site of Komárom-Esztergom County.
