Telecommunications Historical Visual Archive - Teletár

The telecommunication history exhibition warehouse opened in 2007 in the building of the former Avas telephone exchange. THE TELETÁR introduces visitors to the history of telephony, with many telecommunication-related items – previously stored in warehouses – with a presentation of telegraph equipment and instruments. The old Morse code telegraphs, wooden box wall and desk telephones, manual connections, and automatic telephone exchanges are still in working order today. The approximately 600m2 warehouse holds about two and a half thousand items. The smaller items (telephone and telephone equipment, as well as spare parts and instruments) can be seen on shelves. The larger equipment, e.g. manual and automatic telephone exchanges, telegraph and transmission equipment and power supplies, are located in the warehouse. The installations, arranged in rows of frames, evoke the atmosphere of the former centers, from 1881 to the present day. In the lecture hall, which also offers the possibility of holding group sessions of up to 30 people, visitors can watch DVDs and VHS films related to the event of telepathy. Detailed information about the exhibition topics can be found at the touchscreen information desk, which also provides an opportunity to expand knowledge in a playful way with the help of quiz questions.
