Theatre History and Actors Museum

The largest retrospective theatre in the country is the Miskolc National Theatre, which was expanded as a result of the theatre reconstruction carried out between 1991 and 1996. In the building complex, on Déryné Street, where Hungary's first Hungarian-language stone theatre stood from 1823 to 1843, you can find: the Theatre Museum.

The idea of ​​the Theatre Museum in Miskolc was conceived by the theatre artist Ferenc Gyarmathy, who had been collecting relics of his comrades since the mid-1980s. The institution, operated by the Miskolc Gallery, was established at the request of the theater and the Theater Memorial Association, and opened its doors on October 22, 1996.

The permanent exhibition titled "Hollowing Thália" was reorganized in 2010. The exhibition covers the two centuries of Miskolc theatre from the time of the war to the present day.

The largest unit of the exhibition presents the half-century of nationalised theatre in the main hall. The space is the world of the stage, the visitor You can feel yourself in an imitation theater environment: exhibition documents, photographs, posters, stage plans, personal items and stage structures are placed on stylized decorative elements and around the decorative walls. Those interested can simultaneously get acquainted with important events of past decades and the world behind the scenes - They can operate the old lighting counter and try on costumes.

The last unit of the exhibition flashes the amateur color show in the upstairs hallway. With younger children in mind, a children's corner awaits the little ones with puppets, costumes, coloring books, and creative activities.

On the ground floor, the former railway station In addition to the temporary exhibitions, the ticket office, cloakroom, children's activities and the museum shop were also located here as a new service.
